  • Sitz bath- A sitz bath is considered a small bath, with warm water only covering the buttocks. Sitz baths can be done on the toilet with a plastic sitz bath from the pharmacy, or an online store like Amazon.com etc. Baking soda or Epsom salts may be added to the warm water and the affected area is soaked for generally about 15 to 20 minutes. You will need to refresh the water occassionally to keep the temperature of the water warm enough. You will want the water pretty warm but not too warm that it might burn your skin. Do not get up too fast when finished soaking, the dialation of your blood vessels may cuase dizziness. Gently pat dry afterwards.

Increasing water intake is also necessary when increasing dietary fiber, as the fiber serves to loosen the stools by retaining more water in them. Fiber also helps to clean the walls of the bowel decreasing the amount of pressure required to have a bowel movement. In order to decrease the chance of further constipation, six to eight glasses of water or juice should be taken daily. There are two sources of fiber, soluble and insoluble. Sources of soluble fiber are: oatmeal, oat cereal, lentils, apples, oranges, pears, oat bran, strawberries, nuts, flaxseeds, beans, dried peas, blueberries, psyllium, cucumbers, celery, and carrots. Sources of insoluble fiber are: whole wheat, whole grains, wheat bran, corn bran, seeds, nuts, barley, couscous, brown rice, bulgur, zucchini, celery, broccoli, cabbage, kale, onions, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, green beans, dark leafy vegetables, raisins, grapes, fruit, and root vegetable skins.

 

  • Exercise- Simple exercise such as a 20 minute walk or doing Kegel exercises can be a great way to improve circulation and blood flow to the pelvic area. Not only will exercise stimulate the bowels to move more often, relieving constipation, but it helps strengthen the pelvic muscles that help pass your stools.   • Zinc Oxide- This white cream that can be used for skin rash is found at the drugstore and can be applied to the anal area with a Q-Tip or cotton ball, reducing pain, itching and swelling.

 

  • Aloe Vera Gel -Aloe Vera is an effective natural treatment for many health problems. It is used as one of the home remedies for hemrrhoids. Applying Aloe Vera gel to the affected area (anus) directly brings relief from pain and burning caused by swollen hemorrhoid veins.

 

  • Witch Hazel -Another of the well-known home hemorrhoids remedies is the extract of Witch Hazel. It is available at most health stores and in supermarkets. Witch Hazel should be applied to the swollen area (hemorrhoid) with a soft cotton ball to find relief from the swelling and associated pain.

 

  • Garlic-Garlic is the king of natural medicines, used for treating a large number of health problems. It makes one of the tried home remedies for internal hemorrhoids and external hemrrhoids. Two garlic cloves (chopped) should be steeped in two cups of water (heated to boil) for about 20 to 30 minutes.   • Bed Rest-You may need a day or more of bed rest to take pressure off inflamed, irritated veins.

 

  • Do Not Sit Or Stand For Long Periods Of Time-Try not to sit or stand for a long time when hemorrhoids are irritated. If you must sit for a long time, sit on a pillow or a donut pillow. Avoid lifting heavy objects.

 

  • Cotton Underwear-Wear cotton underwear to prevent moisture buildup, which can irritate hemorrhoids. Wear loose clothing to allow freedom of movement and to reduce pressure on the anal area.

 

  • Noxema-Dab some on the affected area with a clean cotton ball. This really seems to cool off the burning pain.

 

  • Cayenne Pepper-Take 1 tsp of cayenne pepper in 8 oz of water and drink 2 to 3 times daily.

 

  • Castor Oil-After shower or bowel movement, get some castor oil, and rub a little on the affected areas .  The lack of friction makes for maximum comfort all day

 

  • Rutin-Rutin will shrink hemorroids and eliminate inflamation. Take rutin daily to keep hemorroid inflamation at a reduced level. Rutin strengthens blood vessels, which makes capillaries less fragile and speeds up their healing.

 

  • Make your own wipes for Hemorrhoids- Place paper coffee filters in a plastic zipper bag. Squeeze in enough Witch Hazel to saturate. Wipe the affected area gently with the home-made wipes. Much cheaper than the over the counter hemorrhoid wipes.

 

  • Apple Cider Vinegar- Apply liberally to affected areas with cotton ball. The acidity of the solution may cause some initial stinging, but this should  subside quickly. You can dilute the apple cider vinegar by mixing it with water  before applying it topically if the full strength causes stinging. Many,  however, experience a cooling sensation and quick relief from pain.
